Trio of Government Chief Executive Officers reshuffled in wake of Courtenay exit

Posted: Thursday, January 11, 2024. 10:45 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: The exit of Senator Eamon Courtenay as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration at the end of December has led to the shuffle of three key Chief Executive Officers (CEOs).

CEO for Youth, Sports and Transport, Adele Catzim Sanchez, moves over to the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, rejoining Minister Dolores Balderamos-Garcia and Marconi Leal Jr.

CEO Tanya Santos will move over to the Ministry of Immigration – a portfolio now held by the Prime Minister. She joins incumbent CEOs Narda Garcia and Dr Osmond Martinez.

Santos replaces Dr Gilroy Middleton, who heads over to Youth, Sports and Transport, the third CEO there in as many years.

Incumbent Foreign Affairs CEO Amalia Mai stays put.

Speaking to Channel 5 News, Minister Balderamos-Garcia lauded Santos on her departure: “… we are very, very sorry to see Tanya transferred. I think in the three years, and Tanya didn’t come out of what you would call a social sector background, per se, I think it was more on the environmental side. But what Tanya has brought to the table of the entire government is competence, ability, dedication and integrity.”

While according to the Minister Santos’ service will be “hard to replicate,” CEO Catzim is a welcome and recognizable replacement: “…way back from 1998 to 2003, Adele served in our Ministry of Human Development in a key advisory role and technical role and I believe that with her experience she will be able to assist us.”
