Belize Canoe Association calls off RF&G Up & Down Challenge

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Canoe Association (BCA) announced on Thursday that it was calling off the RF&G Up & Down Challenge that had been scheduled for Saturday, February 3 through no fault of the sponsor.

“The reason is due to not having communicated with our sponsor in a timely manner,” the BCA said in a statement posted on social media.

“We all know that it takes quite a bit of time and funds to be able to purchase the trophies, medals, give out cash prizes and to provide a meal for all paddlers.  It would be unfair to RF&G our faithful sponsor, to give them less than one week’s promotion for their continuous support.”

The BCA didn’t say why they had communicated on time, nor did they say if the race will be held at a later date.

The BCA said the next race is the Libertad NEW RIVER LOOP, a non-membership event, scheduled for Sunday, February 11. The contact person is Dave Newton.

According to the BCA, their next event is the Boom to the City Canoe Race Powered by GUINNESS from Burrell Boom to The Tavern in Belize City on Sunday, February 25.

The BCA said the race will be for BCA members only and paddlers who haven’t yet registered as members may do so on the morning before the race.
