Short power outage hits majority of the country

By Aaron Humes: Power has been restored following an unplanned outage earlier this afternoon.

Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) reported via its Power Updates social media page that the outage started at 2:14 this afternoon and affected the “majority of the country.”

With power now restored, BEL is investigating the cause of the outage.

While BEL was temporarily offline from CFE in Mexico on February 7, there was a late night power outage across the country, during which a man was killed in a fire in Belize City.

That outage was caused when а рrоtесtіvе ѕhіеld wіrе thаt рrоtесtѕ thе trаnѕmіѕѕіоn lіnе frоm lіghtnіng ѕtrіkеѕ, lосаtеd аt аn іnѕtаllаtіоn іn thе Оrаngе Wаlk Dіѕtrісt, mаdе соntасt wіth thе lіnе.
