Special Envoy’s Wonder Woman Wednesday is on Educator Kendra Mahler Rosado

Posted: Wednesday, February 21, 2024. 9:00 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children Rossana Briceño is highlighting courageous Belizean women.

Today’s spotlight is on Kendra Mahler Rosado.

Rosado’s battle with invasive ductal carcinoma exemplifies the resilience and strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Invasive ductal carcinoma is the most common type of breast cancer, and navigating its challenges requires immense courage and determination.

Kendra was born and raised in Belize City.

She has been married for over 30 years to Victor Rosado and they have 2 children, Aidan and Alanna.

Kendra has taught high school at St Catherine Academy and primary school at Belize Elementary School.

Here’s her story:

“I went in for a scheduled mammogram. I was then asked to do an ultrasound. I was then told that we needed a biopsy. 10 days later, 1 week before my 50th birthday, the results came back. My diagnosis was an invasive ductal carcinoma.

That was the bad news. The good news was that we had caught it early. 10 days after the diagnosis, I was in surgery for a lumpectomy.

Because we found it early, they could take out the lump and I didn’t have to get a mastectomy. A month later, I started a 6-week radiation treatment. I didn’t have to do chemotherapy because we found it so early.”

The Special Envoy says that her story serves as a source of inspiration and hope for others facing similar challenges.

Her courage in the face of adversity is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of perseverance in the fight against cancer.
