Belize prepares for Municipal Elections with launch of innovative app

By Horace Palacio: The Elections and Boundaries Department (EBD) has unveiled a groundbreaking application designed to offer up-to-the-minute information on voter turnout and election results. The Belize Municipal Elections 2024 App, set to enhance transparency and engagement for the elections scheduled on Wednesday, 6 March 2024, marks a pivotal advancement in the way election data is disseminated to the public.

Developed through a strategic collaboration with Total Business Solutions Limited (TBSL), the official Belize distributor of Esri’s advanced geospatial technology, the app represents a leap forward in election monitoring and reporting. It meticulously breaks down data for each of the nine municipalities across Belize, incorporating a Voter Lookup feature that enables voters to confirm their polling stations effortlessly.

Mrs. Josephine Tamai, the Chief Elections Officer, expressed her enthusiasm about the new app during a virtual press conference. “We are thrilled to introduce the Belize Municipal Elections 2024 App to our community. This tool does not only furnish users with the latest information but also offers a historical perspective by including data from past elections. Its user-friendly menu allows for a deep dive into specific municipalities and polling areas, with additional features for Belize City, where the electorate is most sizeable. This granularity extends to constituency-level data on voter turnout and results, offering unprecedented insights into the Municipal Elections 2024.”

The virtual press conference, attended by various media representatives, served as a platform to showcase the app’s potential to transform election coverage. Media professionals praised the app for its dynamic and comprehensive features, noting its utility for both studio analyses and field reporting.

The Belize Municipal Elections 2024 App will be made available to the public through the Elections and Boundaries Department and the Government of Belize Press Office’s social media pages as the polls open today.
