Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Aaron Humes: This morning, the People’s United Party (PUP) sent its officials on the invite of the Elections and Boundaries Department to view the proxy register of voters for Wednesday’s general elections under its supervision.
There has been a back and forth on the veracity of the proxy list between the PUP’s General Secretary and former Chief Elections Officer Myrtle Palacio and current CEO Josephine Tamai after concerns were raised.
The final amount of voters stands at about 1,100, but as Palacio tells us, it is difficult for them to formally verify the names and circumstances and this is the first time it has ever been called into question.
According to attorney Andrew Marshalleck, the party is expected to get a complete copy of the register tonight. Regarding the police officer that was the subject of scrutiny in Cayo Central, the party says there is no story to it and any thorough verification of his and other records will go past general elections.
But Palacio insists that the PUP are not being hysterical – it is important to them that every aspect of the process is transparent and the media have a role to play.
