Belmopan Police investigate murder of taxi driver

Posted: June 3, 2016. 6:21 a.m. CST.

By BBN Staff: Relatives of 45-year-old Belmopan City taxi driver, Lionel Gillett, made the shocking discovery of his decomposing body yesterday afternoon, when they went out to look for him in the Rivera area.

Police arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. and saw Gillett’s body with gunshot wounds to the abdomen, back and head, in an initial state of decomposition. Officers were told that on Tuesday night, the taxi driver left his mother’s house en-route to his residence.

It was yesterday morning when he failed to return to his mother’s house like he would do every morning, the family got concerned and were unable to reach him on his cell phone. A group of Gillett’s relatives then went out in search of him and came across his body.

Police investigations continue.
