AARON HUMES Reporting: In the Number 1 Magistrate’s Court today Jason “Soup” Williams, an alleged gang leader and the man police suspect was behind Tuesday night’s shooting of Kariq Tzul and Andrew Tate on West Canal near King Street, was charged for two counts of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm in public.
Williams pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith but because the offence involves the alleged use of a firearm he was remanded in custody until March 20, 2014.
Late on Monday night, police constables Jason Augustine and Elvin Nah said they heard the sound of gunfire while patrolling on Orange Street and went to investigate.
Upon reaching the area of Bishop Street at its junction with West Canal, they saw a dreadlocked man identified as Williams who opened fire on them and then turned to flee.
The shots missed both officers.
