Friday, October 17, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Carnival Cruise Lines today issued a statement regarding a passenger on one of its ships who is being monitored for Ebola.

The unnamed passenger, who is a laboratory supervisor at Texal Health Presbyterian Hospital, is sailing on board the “Carnival Magic” and sparked grave concerns in Belize on Thursday when it was learned that she was in voluntary quarantine and efforts were being made to evacuate her via the Phillip Goldson International Airport to the United States.

The Carnival Cruise Lines statement says that the company was informed by the Centers for Disease Control that the guest was on board the “Carnival Magic” and was “deemed by the CDC to be very low risk.”

“At no point in time has the individual exhibited any symptoms or signs of infection and it has been 19 days since she was in the lab with the testing samples,” says the Carnival Cruise Lines Statement.

The Cruise Lines statement explains that “the guest remains in isolation on board the ship and is not deemed to be a risk to any guests or crew.”

It goes on to explain that “the individual has no symptoms and has been isolated in an extreme abundance of caution.”

Additionally, the official statement from Carnival Cruise Lines explains that one of its ships visit Ebola affected areas and that “any passengers or crew who have visited or traveled through Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea within 21 days of a cruise departure date will be denied boarding.”

The Cruise Lines says that all of its guests must submit to rigorous health screening prior to boarding and remains in close contact with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization for guidance.

The “Carnival Magic” is due to arrive back at its home base in Galveston, Texas on Sunday October 19 following its 7-day Caribbean cruise.
