Wednesday, February 18, 2015. AARON HUMES Reporting: Belize City Council staff are to receive leased property from a 50-acre parcel off Mile 14 on the George Price Highway in the community of Hattieville, granted by the Government to the Council last year.

Mayor Darrell Bradley explained to reporters today that the Council continues work on surveying and apportioning lots of 100 by 90 feet for staff members who have been working for a minimum of two years as a reward for their years of service, as well as marking out space for road reserve, streets and access as well as establishing utilities and transportation to and from the area.

Initially 180 of the council’s complement of staff – less senior managers and Councilors – were to benefit from the grant, but it may become less because of the swelling of the Council’s ranks due to the BML workers acquisition.

The Council will institute a lottery to ensure the proper selection of beneficiaries.

But the Council is determined to go through with the project once issues such as markings for road reserve and access are settled and the property is developed.

The Council has previously offered bonuses to workers and worked with other municipalities to develop regulations concerning workers’s service.
