PM Barrow attends CARICOM summit in the Bahamas

Belizean_Prime_Minister,_Dean_Barrow_in_London,_27_June_2013_(cropped)Tuesday, February 24, 2015. BMG: Prime Minister Dean Barrow today traveled to Nassau, the Bahamas to attend the Summit of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM.

The terse press release from the PM’s office was short on specifics other than saying that Mr. Barrow will return to the country on Sunday and that during his absence, the Deputy Prime Minister is acting Prime Minister.

According to media reports from the Bahamian capital Nassau, the regional leaders will meet on Thursday and Friday.

According to Chairman of CARICOM Perry Christie, the summit will discuss, among other things, improving the standards of living and work of the people of the Region; the full employment of labour and other factors of production; accelerated, coordinated and sustained economic development and convergence; expansion of trade and economic relations with third States; and enhanced levels of international competitiveness.

When the meeting opens of Thursday, the regional leaders will welcome the newest member of the group, the new Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Timothy Harris, who’s Team Unity won general elections last week.
