By Chrisbert Garcia: Breaking reports from the Cayo District confirm that 39-year-old American National, Anne Elizabeth McComb, was murdered sometime between the hours of 8:00 yesterday morning and 8:00 this morning when her body was found floating in the Mopan River near a deck where her belongings were located.
The owner of Nabitunich Resort, which is located between mile 71 and 72 on the George Price highway in the limits of Benque Viejo Del Carmen, reported McComb missing yesterday evening around 5:00, after he noticed that nine hours had passed and she had not returned from an area down the horse riding trail where she did her yoga practices.
Police then visited the area and found McComb’s belongings on a deck along the bank of the Mopan River but there was no sign of her until officers visited the area again this morning to search for her, and found a body floating in the river near the deck.
That body was identified as McComb’s and had blunt force wounds to both sides of the forehead, as well as marks on the neck. It was transported to a morgue where it now awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police have upgraded the case from a missing person to murder and one suspect is already in custody, pending investigations.
