5. MURDERBy BBN Staff: It was a bloody weekend in Belize City, triggered by the murder of George Street gang leader, Gerald “Shiney” Tillet, on Saturday night in Dangriga.

Following Tillet’s murder there were a string of shootings across Belize City, one of which resulted in the death of 22-year-old Kadeem Castillo.

Tillet was killed in Dangriga after 7:00 on Saturday night while he was socializing at Wadani Shed on St. Vincent Street with David Rodriguez and Carlos Sharp, both of whom were also shot by the gunman who killed Tillet.

Nicholas Swaso, who is believed to be Tillet’s murderer, was also injured and later taken to the hospital.

Tillett received one shot to his temple, Rodriguez and Sharp were both shot to the chest. Swaso was shot to the back. By the time police arrived on the scene a few minutes later, the victims had already been transported to a hospital.

Of the four victims, Tillett was the only one who succumbed to his injury due to its severity and was pronounced dead at 11:00 that night.

The following day in Belize City, police were called to an area in front of Madam Liz Crescent where they saw Castillo lying on the street with gunshot wounds to his chest and head.

Initial investigations revealed that around 12:10 a.m. several gunshots were heard and a grey car was seen fleeing the area. Castillo was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police investigations into both of these incidents is ongoing.
