By BBN Staff: Two Belizean artists are in Astana, Kazakhstan a country in Central Asia, representing the country at Expo 2017.
Cecil “Cocono Bwai” Jenkins and Denise Castillo, left the country on Sunday, to perform at the expo, which is expected to draw a crowd of between 3-4 million people.
Their trip was a collaborative effort between the Office of the Music ambassador, the National Institute for Culture and History (NICH) and the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE).
The artists are attending the expo to promote Belize through music and cultural exchange, in line with the continued push by various organizations in Belize to make music a viable Belizean export.
Jenkins, a three-time national song competition winner, said that he would be using the expo to market not only Belize but also himself, taking advantage of the networking opportunities available at the expo.
Expo 2017 is an International Exposition, which began on June 10 and will run until September 10.
The expo is being held under the theme “Future Energy”, and aims to create a global debate between countries, nongovernmental organizations, companies and the general public on best practices to ensure sustainable energy for all, while reducing carbon emissions caused by fossil fuels.
