By BBN Staff: Shyne Barrow, former Chief Executive Officer of the Belizean Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (BSCAP), held a press conference today, providing evidence to his claim that the former CEO had claimed over $600,000 in salaries.

Barrow held the conference at the Belize City House of Culture this morning, providing a document that showed former CEO and current Chair of the Board, Heather Cunningham, had claimed over $600,000 in salaries and expenses for the period, 2010-2013.

Barrow contended that he resigned because Cunningham’s claim was for over a half a million dollars, while the organization was preparing to distribute some $2,500 in royalty collections to its members, which worked out to around $12 per member.

“The numbers are there. This is not my document, I did not create this; this is what she [Cunningham] sent to me,” Barrow said.

He added that he does not know how the organization will pay because he never handled the financials, but he feels that the members of BSCAP should be asking those questions to the organization’s Board of Management.

“How can you make such a claim, when you have not done anything of consequence during your time as CEO?” Barrow asked, saying that he has lost confidence in BSCAP’s ability to effectively lobby for copyright compliance in Belize.

Barrow’s resignation letter to the BSCAP board leaked last week, bringing the issue to light. On Friday, BSCAP responded with a statement, accepting his resignation and stressing that his claims were false.
