By BBN Staff: He was called a Kingpin and his associates were referred to as, “Sinoloa Cartel Operatives in Belize.”

His business, Mayan King Agro Enterprise, the nation’s largest banana producer recorded huge losses because he could not conduct business above the table as banks wanted nothing to do with him.

However, the storm has passed for John Zabaneh.

Yesterday the US Treasury Department issued him a letter, stating, “effective as of the date of this letter, you and your companies are no longer designated as Specially Designated Narcotics Traffickers. ”

It continued, “Accordingly, all property and interests in property which had been blocked solely due to your or your companies designation are unblocked and you and your companies are permitted to engage in any lawful transactions involving US persons.

While there is much relief for Zabaneh and his family, one of his associates from Corozal, Daniel Moreno, remains on the US list of traffickers.
