GOB to host stakeholder consultation for European Development Fund National Indicative Programme

BBN Staff: The Ministry of Public Service, Energy and Public Utilities will be hosting a stakeholder consultation for the European Development Fund National Indicative Programme (EDF-11) on December 4th 2017 at the Western Regional Conference Room.

The consultation is scheduled to commence at 9:30 a.m. and conclude at midday.

The overall objective is to discuss implementation modalities and programmes to raise the living standard of the Belizean population and meet Belize’s Sustainable Development Goals for 2020 and beyond.

The specific objective aims at supporting the implementation of the Belize Growth and Sustainable Development Strategy (GSDS) and the Sustainable Energy Roadmap. 

The expected results focus on three (3) areas:

  1.  Provide electricity to villages that currently do not have electricity and support public facilities such as parks, schools and clinics in these communities to be more secure and user friendly. Also, to increase the knowledge of the community members for the up keep of these systems thus supporting the local job force.
  2.  Create an environment for energy efficient products in the Belizean market via standards and label of such equipment, demonstrate the benefits of energy efficiency which should see a reduction in the initial and operating cost for all Belizeans.
  3. Support the renewable energy industry via comprehensive studies of all available types that should create a more investor friendly environment that will support the electricity sector and strengthen energy security in the country.
