Dead fish wash up on beach and river bank

trong>By BBN Staff: BBN readers have shared with us some videos of dead fish washing up along the beach recently in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.A report from Ambergris Today also questions the rare occurrence.

The unusual happenings have residents concerned, since among the dead fish that washed up were sardines, needle nose fish and puffer fish.

It is yet unclear if the death of the fish are due to any tide or toxic poisoning in the sea.

Local fishermen have advised residents not to consume the fish.

Similar reports also surfaced of dead fish including tilapia and tarpon washing up along the New River.

However, residents from Orange Walk believe that the cause of the dead fish is because of toxic chemicals being dumped in the river from the nearby sugar factory.
