Mayor Wagner will not reinstate terminated six

BBN Staff: After an intense meeting with the Christian Workers’ Union (CWU) yesterday, the Belize City Council maintains that it will not reinstate any of the six employees recently terminated.

Yesterday, CWU President, Evan Mose Hyde met with Mayor Bernard Wagner regarding the termination of two of its union members.

Hyde maintained that the terminations were done without due process as the union was not notified or consulted.

In a statement released last week, Hyde articulated that he was not of the view that the terminations were fair and just.

Those two employees had just been positively appraised and so their terminations were unusual, he said.

Days ago, the Belize City Council formally terminated six employees but the letters did not indicate why they were being sent home.

Following the terminations, the council’s Human Resource Director, Sharlene Rudon, was a victim of arson.

The council believes it was retaliation for the terminations of the employees.
