Posted: Sunday, June 3, 2018. 8:20 am CST.

BBN Staff: Belize City police are investigating the shooting of a minor that occurred yesterday evening.

According to authorities, around 5:15 yesterday evening, police went to the intersection of Racoon and Seagull Street after receiving reports of a person with a gun.

When police arrived, a young man began to run and as police set chase, they saw the person taking out a .38 gun from a backpack he was carrying.

The young man then pointed the firearm at the officers.

Police officers fired and shot him on his right and left feet.

Later on, the person was identified as a 13-year-old minor of Pitter street.

The grandmother of the minor was in the immediate area when authorities retrieved the gun he had.

The kid was then transported to the KHMH for treatment.

He is admitted under police guard.

When released, he will be charged for 2 counts of aggravated assault, one counts each of keeping a firearm without a license and keeping ammunition without a license.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a full investigation into this matter.
