Ministry of Economic Development calls out The Amandala Newspaper for inaccurate reporting

Posted: Friday, July 20, 2018. 3:48 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Today the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade, and Commerce issued a statement in response to an article published by the Amandala Newspaper.

That article indicated that the Government of Belize had provided a concession to Belize Estate Company (BEC) to import 75 vehicles.

However, the Ministry explained that in 2014, BEC was issued a fiscal incentive to upgrade its standard to that of the Alamo and National Car Rental brand.

The Ministry further clarified that in March of this year it changed an initially approved order of SUV to include some pickup trucks but the concession remains the same.

According to the statement, this fiscal incentive is to influence Belize’s tourism industry.

In the statement, the ministry goes on to accuse the Amandala Newspaper of not providing, “a complete picture of the status of this incentive.”

The statement further refutes Amandala’s assertion that there was a new fiscal incentive issued.

As such,  the Ministry of Economic Development calls on The Amandala Newspaper to correct the inaccurate report.
