Fire destroys home in Belize City

Staff: Authorities in the old capital are investigating a fire that destroyed a home last night. 

According to reports, police responded to a fire on Jimmy Dyer Street, Belize City around 8:28 PM and upon arrival, they saw a wooden house engulfed in flames. 

The owner of the house, Delvino Vasquez, 68, reported that about 8:15 p.m.,  he was sleeping with a lit candle in the house when he was awoken by smoke and discovered that the house was on fire.  

The house was completely destroyed by the fire and the value is unknown.  

Police are investigating.
