Three Belize city men detained for horrifying home invasion

Posted: Tuesday, January 15, 2019. 8:23 am CST.

BBN Staff: Police have released the names of the three men busted while they were carrying out a home invasion in Belize City on Sunday night.

The home invasion quickly escalated into a hostage situation after the two Chinse proprietors of 7 Days store exited the premises bleeding and with duct tape on their mouths.

However, their 6-year-old daughter remained inside the building with the culprits.

Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams joined authorities at the scene. The culprits saw the police and fired several shots in their direction. Police officers ran for cover behind nearby vehicles.

Williams told the media that he managed to get in contact with the men while they were inside and after 20 minutes of over the phone negotiations, the men agreed to exit the home.

Williams said that the authorities had to exercise extreme caution in this situation since the child was inside the building with the culprits. Fortunately, she exited unharmed.

The two proprietors are receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Authorities detained Richard O’Neal, 26; Wayne Welch, 25, and Steven Bernard, 25.

They are expected to be charged today.
