ICJ Awareness campaign comes to San Ignacio

Posted: Saturday, February 2, 2019. 9:13 am CST.

the education awareness campaign on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has intensified.

Members of the ICJ education campaign will be at the San Ignacio Welcome Center tomorrow to educate and answer questions from the people of San Ignacio, Santa Elena and surrounding communities.

The team will be available to the public from 9 a.m  to 12 noon. The public is encouraged to visit and ask questions and clarify any uncertainties they may have.

On April 10, 2019, Belizeans will be asked to vote in favor of or against taking Guatemala’s long standing claim on Belize’s territory to the ICJ for final resolution.

The Opposition, People’s United Party (PUP) has informed the nation of their decision to vote ‘No’ and the ruling, United Democratic Party ( UDP) announced their position for a ‘Yes’ vote.

Five former Foreign Affairs Ministers of Belize also jointly signed a declaration calling for a ‘Yes’ vote in an effort to finally find a solution to the claim.

Nonetheless, on decision day 2019, Belizeans will decide whether or not to take the claim for a final resolution to the ICJ at The Hague, Netherlands.
