First annual Coconut Festival to be held in Corozal

Posted: Monday, March 4, 2019. 9:42 am CST.

BBN Staff: Tourism industry stakeholders are coming together to host the first ever Coconut Festival in Corozal, with the intent of making it an annual event.

The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), Belize Tourism Board (BTB), and even Centro Escolar Mexico will be hosting the event on March 29 and 30. The Festival will be held on the beach front property in front of Maya Hotel in Corozal, after the curve from Tony’s Inn.

The two-day event kicks off with a Mayan Wedding Reenactment on Friday night at Santa Rita archaeological site. The event will also feature the Fireball Maya game, cultural presentations, live entertainment, coconut-themed games and a beach party.

John Burgos, executive director of the BTIA, said that stakeholders are pushing to make the festival the flagship event for Corozal.

“We have been trying to establish a signature festival in Corozal for 3 years, we are happy to finally see it become a reality,” Burgos said.
