By BBN Staff: Authorities are investigating the drowning of an American national that happened last week Friday.
According to reports, a boat captain visited the Placencia Police Station and reported that earlier in the day, he took 8 tourists on a snorkeling tour near Caribou Caye.
The captain says that when they were ready to leave, they noticed that one person, Gemma Paybarah was missing.
They conducted a search of the immediate area and were unable to locate her.
On Saturday morning, a boat captain in the area of Wewe Caye found the body floating and took it to Placencia Village.
A post mortem examination was conducted and determined that Paybarah died of drowning.
Police are investigating.
