UDP sets date for leadership convention

By Aaron Humes: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has set its convention date for February 9, 2020.

The venue will be the Belize Civic Center, according to party organ The Guardian, which reported that the party made the decision at its National Party Council meeting earlier today.

The convention will be party leader and Prime Minister Dean Barrow’s last, although he is expected to stay on through the next general election. But his successor and the rest of the UDP National Executive committee will be elected at this convention.

Current Deputy Party Leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber, and Belmopan area representative, John Saldivar, are the two confirmed candidates for party leader though others can apply.
