By Aaron Humes: It’s not just true about Kansas, says the Belize Tourism Board: there is no place like home.
Between the million-plus cruise visitors and hundreds of thousands of overnight visitors, so many can’t be wrong about visiting our Jewel, Belize.
Where else can you spend the morning snorkeling off the prestigious Barrier Reef, and by early evening be visiting Mayan temples, taking in hudut and darasa, or partying in Orange Walk and Corozal?
And so it appeals to Belizeans to consider staying home away from home with its Belizean Traveller Campaign in association with the Belize Hotel Association. The campaign promotes local awareness, domestic tourism, create memories and instill our unique cultural, traditional and folkloric practices among other things. This year the campaign is focusing on Belize’s tourism product and attractions under three main themes: Friends, Family, and Couples.
A video competition asks: “What would be your ideal vacation as a Belizean traveler?” The first five submissions will be uploaded on BTB social media and the video with the most reactions and shares shall be the winner of a grand vacation prize worth $4,000. The Board has posted its own thoughts in three separate videos and musician Marlyn Vansen is on the road and posting updates on her travels throughout Belize on Facebook and Instagram.
For those worried about cost, the Belize Hotel Association is offering discounts through its membership of over 100 properties.
The competition continues through October.
