Verdes, Bandits meet tonight in the first game of Premier League final

By Aaron Humes: They were the number one and number two teams all season long.

Now, a 2-game series will see either of Verdes of San Ignacio or Belmopan Bandits crowned Premier League Opening Season champions.

Game 1 starts at 7 p.m. tonight at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in the capital.

Verdes come in off a 5-3 demolition of Altitude of Independence, in the second semifinal, while Bandits squeaked by San Pedro Pirates on away goals after losing at home.

There will be no such advantage for the final series; if it ends tied after next week there will be additional time and then penalties.

Both teams strike forces are up to the challenge with Mariano Landero leading Verdes and Georgie Welcome leading the Bandits.

The only home loss before the playoffs suffered by Bandits at home was to Verdes, a 4-1 defeat costing them home-field advantage.
