One Guatemalan and three Belizeans charged for assault of PC Teul

By BBN Staff: A Guatemalan national and three Belizeans were arraigned today at the Belmopan Magistrate’s court for the assault on the life of police officer, Edgar Teul, that occurred on New Year’s day.

Guatemalan Migdael Gonzalez and Belizeans Irvin Cal, Magdaleno Cal and Abelino Cal were arrested and charged.

Migdael and Irvin were charged for aggravated assault while Magdaleno and Abelino were charged for attempt murder and use of deadly means of harm.

PC Teul was reportedly at a football game in the Maya Mopan area of Belmopan when he was attacked.

Two men armed with machetes chopped him multiple times while others stoned him.

A police mobile quickly arrived to rescue him from danger.

He was transported to the Western Regional Hospital and later the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is listed in a stable condition.

No plea was taken from the men and they were all remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 26, 2020.
