Belize takes over presidency of regional development project

By BBN Staff: Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Belize has taken over the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Mesoamerica Integration and Development Project (PM for its acronym in Spanish) a regional initiative geared towards collaboration for the betterment of lives for the people in member countries.

Belize assumes the Pro Tempore presidency for the corresponding to the first semester of 2020, to hold two regional high-level meetings of the Executive Committee of the PM. Those meetings will be focused on promoting the definition of the 2020 Mesoamerican Business Agenda and the fulfillment of the following relevant ministerial meetings for Health, Environment, Energy, Transport as well as of the Commission for Promotion and Financing (CPF) work plan.

Launched in 2008, the PM is a mechanism that the 10 member countries use to implement regional projects for development and integration. The member countries are Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. The PM replaces the 2001 Puebla-Panama Plan (PPP) and was championed by the then-Mexican President, Vicente Fox.
