Immigration Minister: Departments of Nationality& Immigration Services is not embarked on an Amnesty program

Posted: Friday, January 10, 2020. 11:09 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Ministry of State in the Ministry of Immigration, Beverly Williams issued a statement this morning saying that the Departments of Nationality& Immigration Services is not embarking on an Amnesty Program.

“What occurred yesterday at the office of Ms. Diane Finnigan was most unfortunate and totally misrepresented as a project designed to issue Nationality and other immigration-related documents,” Williams stated.

In addition, Williams said that the alleged ‘misrepresentation’ of the project is the furthest from their intention and following strictly on the rules and laws enacted in 2014 would be a clear violation.

The Minister noted that the requirement is for validated applications to be published in the Gazette for 6 weeks.

The process, she says, includes that the Gazette publications are vetted by a Nationality Scrutinizing Committee, then passed to the Minister for further review and approval or otherwise.

Williams assured Belizeans that any agreement for a session outside the immigration offices was designed solely as an advisory session only and no official document can be or would issued.

“The session will be properly conducted and supervised by the competent and trained officers of the Immigration and Nationality Services Departments,” Williams said.

She further invited the media to view and record the process.
