Police investigate circumstances surrounding death of infant

Posted: Tuesday, January 28, 2020. 10:18 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant from San Estevan, Orange Walk.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette said that the family reported the matter to police on Saturday.

Melissa Castillo told police that on Friday, January 24, 2020, she visited the Northern Regional Hospital where her 2-month-old baby was vaccinated.

Castillo says that after the vaccination, the child began suffering from high fever and she took him to the Northern Medical Plaza on Saturday. At the private institution, the doctor said that the child had no pulse.

The 2-month-old baby died and his family is wondering if it had to do with the vaccine.

Police say that a post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted on the child’s body to determine the cause of death.

BBN understands that the Ministry of Health has also launched an internal investigation.
