PUP: John Saldivar is bad for Belize

By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) issued a statement this morning calling on the new UDP leader, John Saldivar, to call elections now.

Yesterday, John Saldivar was elected the Leader of the United Democratic Party with 342 votes.

The PUP says that by section 37 of the Belize Constitution, Dean Barrow no longer qualifies to be Prime Minister of Belize.

“He should resign immediately, in disgrace,” the PUP says.

The PUP also noted that the UDP’s convention is the most divisive campaign ever seen.

But, the party didn’t wait to also speak about Saldivar’s reputation.

“He (Saldivar) assumes leadership with a reputation defined by crime and corruption. More drug planes have landed during his tenure as Minister of National Security than at any other time in our country’s history.  He is a former business partner of murderer Danny Mason, an associate of accused fraudster Lev Dermen, and a close colleague of disgraced Gaspar Vega,” the PUP stated.

They ended their release by saying that Saldivar is bad for Belize.
