Commissioner condemns ‘exploitation’ of assault victims on social media

Posted: Wednesday, April 8, 2020. 7:06 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Commissioner of Police Chester Williams condemned the actions of one social media proprietor who attempted to intervene in the ‘sex video’ case.

The proprietor of the social media page ‘KREM Sunday Review’ allegedly called, or caused to be called, the names of those involved. (The page is reportedly linked to the television program of the same name aired on KREM Radio and Television).

He stated that it was ‘unethical’ and part of an agenda to ‘tell me how to do my job,’ to which he objects.

At the same time, he maintained that the man and woman he spoke to were not ‘mental cases’ or of diminished capacity when he spoke to them (the Ministry of Health has since confirmed that the woman does suffer from a mental disorder). He contended that it was demeaning and unfair to them to be singled out in this way and reiterated that police will treat everyone with respect and fairness.
