Lord Ashcroft: ‘Port expansion to provide employment ‘

Posted: Thursday, May 14, 2020. 3:07 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ashcroft Alliance is currently in the consultation processes for plans to move forward with the construction of a massive cruise port in Port Loyola.

This morning, on a segment of Open Your Eyes on Channel 5, Lord Micheal Ashcroft spoke briefly on the port expansion.

Ashcroft said that at this stage, there is no investment since it is a proposal to develop the bulk handling and cruise terminal.

The discussions on the project has been going on for years and Ashcroft noted that for the project to be completed, it would need to be embraced by the government.

In addition, he said that he doesn’t foresee any final decision since there is a general election looming, and it would be a new government that would make the decision.

“Cruise lines have said that within 2 to 3 years time, they don’t necessarily want to come to ports that have to tender their passengers in,” Ashcroft noted.

He said that the project would create significant employment and cater to an increase in the number of tourism arrivals.
