By BBN Staff: The barbecue fundraiser for cancer warrior Wayne Eiley, has gotten bigger and has now been upgraded to a two day event.
Originally planned for a single event at two separate locations on Saturday, July 25, the Belize City event at the battlefield park will continue as planned on that date, so those interested can still support Eiley’s fight and enjoy great food at the same time, but the event in Placencia has been bumped to Sunday, July 26 to account for the football marathon being played in his honor.
The marathon kicks off at 10:00 a.m. at the Placencia Football Field, where food and drinks will be on sale. The Placencia Assassin’s Football Club (FC) will be joined by Altitude FC, Freedom Fighters FC, Police United FC, Pomona Warriors and Bandits Sports Club.
Both events will feature delicious barbecue chicken for $10 a plate, and pork for $12 with the options of either rice and beans and potato salad or homemade barbecue beans, flour tortillas, and potato salad. Sausage on a stick for $5 and sausage wraps for $6.
Cancer is the second-most lethal illness in Belize, with various types killing hundreds of Belizeans each year, according to data presented by the Ministry of Health. Each fundraiser is an attempt by a cancer warrior and their family to push back against those statistics.
Breaking Belize News encourages all Belizeans to support initiatives for cancer warriors in their communities and beyond where possible. As cancer does not discriminate, we are all at risk of one day becoming cancer warriors.
