Belize receives Hydroxychloroquine in medical aid package from India

Posted: Thursday, July 30, 2020. 3:09 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: India has donated medical aid worth US $127,000 to Belize.

Among the medical package sent, the country has provided Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) tablets, other essential drugs, testing kits and covid-related protection gear.

There is an extensive debate on the use of Hydroxychloroquine to treat patients with COVID-19.

Social media giants have removed a viral video that made false claims that the drug could cure COVID-19.

The drug is used as a treatment for malaria.

US health authorities have issued warnings against the use of the drug to treat patients with COVID-19 citing that there is no scientific evidence to prove its effectiveness.

The WHO warns that the misuse of hydroxychloroquine can cause serious side effects and illness and even lead to death.

Oxford University conducted a study that found that the drug was not effective against COVID-19 in hospitalized patients.

The US Food and Drug Administration also warned against the use of the drug outside a hospital setting because of possible risks to the heart from taking it.
