PUP standard bearer for Pickstock says not time to reopen the airport

Posted: Wednesday, August 5, 2020. 8:27 am CST.

By BBN Staff: PUP standard bearer for Pickstock, Anthony Mahler issued a statement expressing concerns with the reopening of the airport on August 15.

Mahler says that the main concerns include that countries like the United States and Mexico have a large amount of COVID-19 cases.

Mahler added that Belize is heading into the slowest months for tourism which means not much money will be coming in therefore, the airport should not open.

He also said that the health system is not ready to cope with any sort of outbreak.

A lot of people in Belize have  diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and other ailments.

He added that most Belizeans are against the reopening of the airport on August, 15, 2020.

“We are not going to save the economy with the small number of visitors coming to Belize during the coming months. Actually, the foundation of our economy has been eroded for far too long,” Mahler said.
