Procedures for handling bodies of persons who died of COVID-19 being reviewed

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health is reviewing the procedures for handling the bodies of persons who have died from COVID-19. This decision was taken as the recommendations used globally have changed due to new information and scientific updates.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services,, speaking at today’s session of Ask the Experts, notes that more information has become available and many things have changed since the current policy for handling the dead was adopted back in March/April this year.

Manzanero notes that in making the changes, the Ministry is guided by international guidelines. The Ministry hopes to have the new policy out to all stakeholders by the end of the week.

“I know we don’t want to talk about people dying with a diagnosis of COVID-19, or people dying in general, but that’s a reality, it may happen,” Manzanero said. He added that the Ministry is researching updates to international guidelines on a daily basis, to ensure that any decision to change a policy or procedure is informed by the most current data.
