Man shot dead in burglary of Minister’s residence named

By Aaron Humes: The man accused of burglarizing the residence of Minister of Health, Pablo Marin, in Corozal Town Thursday night, only to apparently be shot dead by the Minister himself, has been identified as one Arkel Matura.

Corozal Town resident Matura, according to United Democratic Party organ The Guardian, is said to have a lengthy rap sheet of offences, primarily theft and burglary.

The Minister told police he spotted someone in his yard around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and fired a warning shot at him from his licensed 9-millimetre pistol. The individual began to run and Marin fired twice more.

Matura’s lifeless body was found in an empty adjoining lot, and police found evidence of the lower flat of the house being ransacked. Their investigations continue.
