By BBN Staff: Elections and Boundaries employee, Carla Bennett, is the Belize’s latest COVID-19 victim. Bennett, 59, died yesterday evening in her home in Belize City.

Bennett’s husband told police that she had a high fever and wasn’t feeling well. After returning from work, he found Bennett lying faceup in her living room. Police visited the home and did not observe any signs of foul play.

Authorities took a sample from Bennett after she died and tonight confirmed that she died of the virus. Bennett was asthmatic and suffered from high blood pressure.

Bennett, who worked in the central office of the Elections and Boundaries department as an acting registration officer, retired a few years ago but was recently employed temporarily to assist with the ongoing registration of voters. Her work colleagues have taken to social media to express their sadness and share their condolences with her family.

Earlier today, the Department issued a press release informing the public that the Elections and Boundaries headquarters and Lumberyard crescent offices are closed for sanitization.
