PUP pledges to give women equal pay for equal work

By BBN Staff: Tonight, the PUP is launching their women and family agenda in their #PlanBelize Manifesto.

In a virtual discussion session, PUP Party Leader, John Briceno, Standard bearer for Belize Rural Central, Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Mesopotamia Standard bearer, Candice Pitts and Belize Rural South Standard Bearer, Andre Perez accompanied by his 2 daughters discussed the new policies for the women and family agenda in #PlanBelize.

Garcia emphasized the importance to provide adequate housing and healthcare for all women.

Pitts said that it is imperative to recognize the role that women play in families. In addition, Pitts said that many front-line workers during this COVID-19 pandemic are women. She questioned if the women professionals are receiving the salary commensurate with their roles.

Dolores added that the policies to empower women and families will assist all families by providing education, adequate healthcare and access to housing.

Among the policies, is to promote Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), to which Perez’ daughter, Alexia commented that it is important to give women the opportunites to participate because when more women are involved in STEM it can provides more economic security for women.
