Police detain Lands Ministry legal counsel at Belmopan office

By Aaron Humes: BBN has confirmed that the Legal Counsel for the Ministry of Natural Resources, attorney Llewellyn Usher, was this morning forcefully prevented from entering his place of work in Belmopan.

Reports to us say that police are guarding the compound after an alleged attempt to destroy files at the all-important Ministry, previously headed by Hugo Patt.

We have seen video of Usher surrounded by police officers, handcuffed and marched off the compound to a waiting vehicle despite his audible protestations.

Police are being accused of roughing up Usher during the detention.

Earlier this week it came to light that there was unknown activity at the Belmopan office. which new Prime Minister John Briceno said he would have investigated.

Several Lands Department offices countrywide are closed today after their workers participated in the conduct of Wednesday’s general elections, won by the PUP in a landslide.
