Brazilian President to offer COVID-19 vaccine for free

Posted: Monday, December 28, 2020. 9:06 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro is poised to offer the COVID-19 vaccine for free to his country’s populace.

Brazil is the country with the 3rd highest COVID-19 cases at more than 7.4 million.

Brazil is also the country with the second-highest death toll of over 191,000.

As soon as the nation’s health regulator, Anvisa gives the green light, the country plans to roll out the vaccine.

Bolsonaro said on social media that once the vaccine is certified by Anvisa (scientific guidelines and legal precepts), his government will offer the vaccine to all, free of charge and not mandatory.

In November, a refrigerated container with China’s Sinovac vaccines against COVID-19 arrived in the country.

According to Bolsonaro, all necessary data for the CoronaVac vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech Ltd has been or will soon be sent to health regulator Anvisa.

He is expecting Anvisa to approve the vaccine and begin vaccination against COVID-19 on January 25, 2021.
