Caribbean Women in Leadership congratulates new Secretary-General of Central American Secretariat for Social Integration, Anita Zetina

By BBN Staff: Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWiL) Belize National Chapter extended congratulations to its member Anita Zetina on her recent appointment to the post of Secretary-General of the Central American Secretariat for Social Integration (SISCA), a sub-system of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

The Secretariat for Social Integration promotes the coordination of intersectoral social policies among SICA Member States including Belize.

The Secretariat works to ensure the correct application of the Social Integration Treaty and develop regional agendas to address common challenges around sustainable development.

“As SISCA’s newest Secretary-General, Zetina brings extensive experience in public sector management. In addition to serving as a senior programme officer with UNICEF, Ms. Zetina has worked at the top policy and management levels in the Public Service, having been Director of the Women’s Department and Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Human Development,” CIWiL noted.

Zetina, who hails from the beautiful town of Benque Viejo del Carmen, is one of Belize’s well-known gender advocates with more than two decades of experience working in the social sector in key management positions.

Under her leadership, public attention was drawn to issues such as gender-based violence, sexual harassment, rape, and gender discrimination.

“Zetina has played an instrumental role as an advocate for the empowerment of women and a catalyst for changing the perception of the role of women within the Belizean society. We celebrate Ms. Zetina’s appointment to this pivotal regional role and know that as an exceptional leader she is an inspirational role model to young girls and women in Belize,” the organization added.
