By BBN Staff: A Belize City woman, her 17-year-old daughter, and eight men were charged this week for hosting and attending an illegal gathering.

The group appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The host of the gathering, Nicki Williams, 37, and her daughter pleaded not guilty were offered bail in the sum of $1,000 which they met. They are scheduled to return to court on March 17, 2021.

The attendees all pleaded guilty and were fined $800 each, which they have until April 30, 2021, to pay or spend six months in prison.

Police say they came across the gathering while conducting foot patrols in the Gungulung area of Belize City on Thursday.

When asked what the men were doing at her home, Williams told police they were just playing cards and “chilling out.” Since none of the men were members of her household, she was charged for hosting an illegal gathering.
