Football Federation of Belize holds coaching course exclusively for women

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: On the occasion of Women’s Month, the Football Federation of Belize is offering an on-line coaching course specifically for women starting at the end of this month.

Yashmin Juan, Communications and Marketing Director, said this is an FFB course that will set the foundation so that when the Concacaf-sponsored courses are given our coaches already have some preparation going into that.

“This is open to women countrywide,” Juan said “It’s going to be through Zoom. FFB saw the opportunity right now to enhance and improve and have more courses with the pandemic and everything that’s going on. We’re doing the best that we can with the resources that we have available and opening the opportunities to as many people as we can. So, we have this coaching course happening.”

The course, which will be imparted by coach Jonathan Hooper will be theory-based and will include the following topics: coaching the game, the ABC of football, principles of the games, small-sided games, reading of the game, session planning, and technical drills.

Sessions will be held on five consecutive Wednesdays from March 31 to April 28, 2021. The sessions will have a duration of two hours from 6:30 to 8:30 in the evening.

Women interested in the FFB “D” License coaching course may call Hooper at 613-5562.

“We also relaunched the recruitment for referees and training will probably be done virtually as well,” Juan said of a course that is for both women and men.

The FFB’s referee training program is for women and men who should be at least 16 years old, have completed high school, love football, and want to play a role in the sport.

The FFB said in press release on Friday, March 5, 2021, that people interested in becoming referees may download application forms “directly from our website and can then be taken or sent to the football regional office nearest to you!”

“We provide the training, you provide the time,” the FFB press release said.
