New San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council announces portfolios

By Zoila Palma: The newly elected San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council led by Mayor Earl Trapp have announced portfolios for the Mayor and 6 councilors.

Mayor Trapp’s portfolio includes finance, human resource, traffic, families and children, public relations, and climate change.

Deputy Mayor Matthew Preston’s portfolio is zoning and planning, local economic development, and new business development.

Councillor Bernadette Fernandez’s portfolio is senior citizens, Non Governmental organizations, civic organizations, and market management.

The portfolio for community events, culture, women, and youth empowerment programs is now being managed by Councilor Shirlene Neal.

Councilor Zahir Figueroa is responsible for sports, beautification, and development of parks and playgrounds.

Councilor Aaron Mai is responsible for education, COVID-19 relief, public health, and tourism promotion.

Councilor Omar Rodriquez received the portfolio for sanitation, neighborhood watch, humane society, police relations, and public safety.

Notably, the new team makes history in the Twin Towns being the first split elected slate to serve in 24 years.

The week after the municipal elections, the Mayor and Councillor Fernandez were sworn in separately from the 5 PUP councilors.
