By Zoila Palma: The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect people around the world and while countries have launched their vaccination campaigns, some nations have reported a 3rd wave of the virus.

According to Pressenza, in Latin America and the Caribbean, there have been 800,099 COVID-19 deaths and over 25.3 million infections.

Brazil has recorded over 4,000 deaths in 24 hours for the first time since the start of the pandemic, now making it one of the epicenters of the pandemic.

The country continues to report an increased number of COVID-19 cases driven by a more contagious variant of the virus.

Brazil’s death toll is over 336,000, the second most affected country followed by the United States of America.
